Sector-5, Gurgaon is a densely populated area with a large concentration of construction workers, domestic helpers, and informal sector labourers. Ram Gopal Foundation chose this Labour Chowk as a key outreach location to reach workers who are often overlooked by formal support systems.
Unlike the industrial zones, workers here face a unique set of challenges — irregular work, no written contracts, denial of basic entitlements, and vulnerability to exploitation by contractors and middlemen. This event was tailored to address these specific concerns and connect workers to legal aid.
I work as a domestic helper and my employer had not paid me for two months, threatening to call the police if I complained. At this event I learned that I have full legal protection, and a Foundation volunteer helped me file a complaint the same day. I finally received my dues within a week.
