On May 10, 2026, Ram Gopal Foundation officially launched its first structured skill training program aimed exclusively at women workers in Gurugram's industrial and domestic labour sectors. The inaugural batch of 75 women gathered at the Foundation's community centre — stitchers, domestic workers, construction helpers, and factory floor workers — each stepping into a classroom for the first time in years.
The six-week program combines hands-on vocational training with sessions on digital literacy, financial planning, and awareness of workers' rights. Crucially, every module is delivered in Hindi, free of charge, and scheduled around the working hours of participants so that earning a living and learning do not have to be a trade-off.
What the Program Covers
The curriculum was designed with direct input from women workers in Gurugram's NCR belt. Rather than generic employability training, each module addresses a specific gap identified through our on-ground consultations over the past year:
Tailoring & Garment Skills
Practical certification in stitching and garment finishing for home-based and factory employment.
Digital Literacy
Smartphone usage, UPI payments, government app navigation (UMANG, DigiLocker, EPFO), and basic internet safety.
Workers' Rights
Know-your-rights sessions on minimum wage, maternity benefits, ESIC entitlements, and how to file complaints.
Financial Independence
Basic banking, Jan Dhan account activation, savings habits, and micro-credit awareness.
Health & Safety
Awareness of occupational health hazards, ESIC hospital access, and mental health resources.
Entrepreneurship Basics
Introduction to running a home-based micro-enterprise — pricing, record-keeping, and self-marketing.

A Participant's Story
Sunita, a 28-year-old domestic worker from Uttar Pradesh, had been working six days a week for years without knowing she was entitled to paid leave or that her employer owed PF contributions on her behalf. She enrolled in the program after hearing about it through a fellow worker at the Foundation's legal aid camp.
I always thought training programs were for people who had studied more. When I came here and sat down with the others, I realised we all had the same gaps. In the first week alone I learned how to open a bank account on my phone. That felt like a very big thing to me.
Sunita's experience points to a pattern our trainers have observed repeatedly: the barrier for most participants is not aptitude — it is access. Once the program removes the barriers of cost, language, and inconvenient timing, uptake and engagement have exceeded expectations.

What's Next?
Batch 1 participants who complete the full program will receive a Ram Gopal Foundation vocational certificate, which our partner employers in the Gurugram industrial belt have agreed to recognise during hiring. We are in discussions with three garment factories and two staffing agencies to create a direct placement pipeline for program graduates.
The Foundation is also exploring a digital-only module for women who cannot attend in person — a WhatsApp-based learning format developed with NGO Grameen Foundation's education team. Pilot details will be announced in July 2026.
